Chapter 358: The Arrival of the Five Blessings
Chapter 358: The Arrival of the Five Blessings
Vera Xavier decided to check the back row of shops. The moment she stepped out of the current one, she ran into Susan Caldwell again. Beside Susan were Skylar Crowe and Irene Jensen, as well as a shrewd-looking man in his forties. He was probably the legendary jade gambling consultant she’d heard about.
Seeing that she was empty-handed, Susan Caldwell smiled and asked, "Haven’t you bought any raw stones yet?"
Skylar Crowe sneered from the side, "Look at that country bumpkin. You can tell she’s completely unsophisticated. Trying to gamble on jade? How utterly embarrassing!"
Irene Jensen sighed softly. Vera Xavier wouldn’t listen to her advice, and there was nothing she could do.
Vera Xavier remained silent, but Jack Judd retorted hotly, "The deadline isn’t here yet, so what’s the rush?"
Aaron Cheney added fiercely, "That’s right! My sister-in-law knows what she’s doing. She’s definitely going to win this time!"
Susan Caldwell’s lips curled into a condescending smile. "If you really don’t know which raw stones to buy, I’ll give you a suggestion. Go for the ones that have been ’windowed.’ They’re a bit more expensive, but at least you can see a little of what’s inside, and you’re less likely to suffer a major loss."
Vera Xavier gave a faint smile. "That sounds reasonable, but I don’t need your advice."
Susan Caldwell chuckled. "We’ve pretty much picked out our raw stones. There are only two hours until the deadline. You’d better hurry!"
With that, she led her group past Vera Xavier, her expression seemingly gentle but her eyes full of pride. As they passed, Skylar Crowe intentionally slammed her shoulder into Vera.
Jack Judd was about to fly into a rage, but Vera stopped him with a slight raise of her hand. "Let them be arrogant for a while. It’ll make it that much more satisfying when we prove them wrong."
After saying this, she wasted no more time and went straight into a shop in the back row, continuing to inspect the stones with a calm and unhurried air.
Jack Judd and Aaron Cheney exchanged a look and both shrugged.
Jack Judd said in a low voice, "This isn’t going to work. I’ve got to go think of something."
"And what are you going to do?" Aaron Cheney said dismissively.
Jack Judd’s eyes darted around as an idea struck him. He said to Vera Xavier, "Sister-in-law, I gotta pee real bad. You take your time picking stones, I’m gonna go take care of business!"
Vera Xavier: "..."
’You really didn’t need to announce that to me.’
Aaron Cheney rolled his eyes at Jack Judd. ’This guy is so vulgar!’
Vera was in no mood to deal with them and continued to inspect the stones.
She had thought it would be difficult to find a high-quality stone this time, but in a shop on the corner, she spotted a raw stone that was a brilliant, sparkling yellow inside. She looked closer and saw that its translucency was surprisingly good and the quality of the jade was excellent.
’I don’t know much about jade,’ she thought, ’but I have a pretty good eye for beauty. With jade, regardless of the color, as long as the quality and translucency are high, it’ll be valuable.’
So, she decided to buy this stone.
Finding a piece of Yellow Jade was a rare treat, so she decided to scan the other raw stones in the shop one more time. Finally, in a corner, she found a large stone being used as a stool. On a whim, she used her X-ray vision on it and saw that the inside was a kaleidoscope of brilliant colors.
She focused her gaze for a closer look. Inside were five distinct colors: red, yellow, green, purple, and white. The red was exquisite, the yellow brilliant, the green so vivid it seemed almost liquid, the purple noble and translucent, and the white as pure as snow.
At that moment, she had no idea that a stone with these colors was a national treasure-level artifact known as the "Five-Fortune Blessing." She simply thought that the green and yellow inside the stone were beautiful and that the jade from those two colors alone would be extremely valuable.
