System Of The Undead

Chapter 82: The Hunt For Lorenzo Begins!

Chapter 82: The Hunt For Lorenzo Begins!

The chaos continued and Lorenzo relished this, this was his environment and with everyone focused on the undead, it meant that fewer people were looking for him.

Lorenzo had killed three Specters so far and he craved more, but he knew that Allison wouldn’t be so easy.

She had brains and knew how to guard herself against threats, Lorenzo didn’t know her whereabouts but he understood what it meant for a woman to be ranked the 7th strongest in this haven for criminals.

A few men spotted and recognized him, and they immediately opened fire because the order to not kill him didn’t reach them but this was due to them lacking the ability to even harm him in the first place.

Lorenzo wasn’t immune to bullets but he had battle experience, he immediately dropped his body low and found cover behind an empty metal barrel that once had fuel.

The volley of bullets continued but it was dark, what they could see was severely limited.

The shooting stopped as they wanted to see if they had gotten him.

A man circled the barrel cautiously and the moment he did, his entire face was blown off, his limp body on its way to the ground before Lorenzo grabbed it.

The men opened fire once again but Lorenzo had the perfect human shield, balancing his gun on the shoulder of the deceased as he gunned down the others with pinpoint accuracy.

But an exchange of fire drew the others towards him, they rushed towards his position but Lorenzo was nowhere to be seen.

All they met was the bodies of their friends that had turned into zombies, They had to be put down but the good thing about this was that they could narrow down where this man was.

"There has been no word from Cindy or Joseph..." A man said, shrouded in darkness.

This was a new voice, the voice of a man who held authority to some degree, not just because he was a Specter but because he was in the upper five.

He had a raspy voice

"They’re dead, they have been killed by him," Another man said but this was the man that had spoken in the previous meeting, he had a deep voice.

"We know no one can stop him so why do we try?" The man with the raspy voice said.

"It’s a game, this was why the Specters were created or have you forgotten, " The deep-voiced man said.

They didn’t sound particularly surprised by this nor were they affected because they knew that no matter how strong Lorenzo was, there was no way he would be able to fight the upper five without getting injured so they waited patiently as they now understood that he was hunting them down in numerical order.

"What do you think he is thinking?" The raspy-voiced man asked; this was regarding the one who led them. He slowly came into view and his appearance was perfect for someone of his rank. The number V is embedded on the nape of his neck.

He had his white shirt unbuttoned and tattoos covering the entire left side of her body.

His black hair was styled in a ponytail with earrings hanging from his earlobe, he had on loose trousers and looked quite good.

He was anything but ugly, he was of Asian descent and went by the name Ren, Ren was in the Yakuza and he wasn’t going to let Lorenzo get his way.

"You know what? I think I should go visit him," Ren said, he thought that the other man would let go of him.

"Do as you please," The deep-voiced man responded as Ren walked out of the room with a sword strapped to his back.

"Are you sure it was wise to let him go, Matt?" A feminine voice asked as the moonlight, for a brief moment illuminated the room.

Apart from Ren, only one more person was missing and that was the man that led them.

"Ren is the most effective when not tamed," Matt blurted out.

[New Optional Side Quest Received! Accept? ]

Jason was barely clinging onto life so he was confused about what was going to happen next.

Jason couldn’t understand why Chronos thought it was wise to give him any form of assignment in his current condition.

"Chronos... Not now," Jason responded to the alert, he couldn’t do it and had no interest in putting himself in danger for Chronos.

He had paid his debt to the system for the radar he gave him but he also realized that these quests Chronos was giving him weren’t because it was personal.

Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a need for him to present that contract, Chronos could easily enforce it as a quest.

This meant that Chronos was at least honest to an extent even though Jason knew it was keeping things from him.

Chronos had a motive of its own and Jason knew that this might prove to be dangerous as it felt like it was more than a system.

It looked like it had self-awareness but Jason was glad because this would give him the upper hand to survive in this world.

Jason conceded because he knew what had to be done, he needed the EXP as this was the key to unlocking skills as Chronos had shown him previously.

Jason realized that he was far too weak to survive in this new world and that reality came with a cruel awakening. He needed to get strong and fast.

Chronos was merged with him at a subconscious level so he knew everything that Jason was feeling, and Chronos could take advantage of it.

Jason noticed that this had "Optional" Attached to it, this meant that Jason could deny the request and the description of the mission was hidden.

"No..." Jason rejected it, he was beginning to lose trust in Chronos because Chronos had been anything but straightforward with him.

"I reject it, Chronos," Jason said and the moment he said that, the door was blown open. Behind it, stood an unknown figure.
