Chapter 53: Alex Arrives!
Chapter 53: Alex Arrives!
Clementine was in her room, she couldn’t help but worry about Sam because this was unlike him. Sam has always been an individual that valued punctuality so there was no way he would be the one to do something he hated.
She couldn’t believe that he wasn’t back yet, he had no reason to stay away this long without communicating with her.
He should have returned by now and the fact that he hadn’t meant that things weren’t going as planned.
Clementine knew she couldn’t lose Sam or they might be in trouble as she didn’t know the enemies that were coming for them.
She needed to speak to Bella further but it was already late into the night, approximately 2 AM so this was an inappropriate time to meet Bella for such a conversation.
They had tomorrow, she looked at the baby and realized that they would need to get some baby food but for now, the meals they had would have to do somehow.
Luckily, the baby was sleeping soundly but Clementine hadn’t informed Rachel or even Bella of what was going on yet. She wanted to do so with Sam but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Where the hell are you, Sam!?" Clementine thought to herself but she soon felt a smaller hand grab hers.
She looked down to see the boy, he rested his head on her shoulder, sticking his thumb in his mouth as he began to suck on it.
Clementine didn’t know what to make of this but she was glad that he was warming up to her.
Could this child truly be the cure to all this chaos?
What happens next if they could return the world to order?
Humanity will just find the next thing to kill themselves over because even now when they had a common enemy, they still killed each other to better their chances of survival as opposed to working together.
If they all joined hands, she was sure that the zombies wouldn’t stand a chance but this was impossible because as crazy as it seems, some people preferred this new world to the old one.
Clementine wasn’t comfortable that this boy was clinging to her arm because she knew that he was infected. What would happen if he accidentally bit her? There was no telling if the infection would spread from this bite.
Knock, knock. Clementine heard two distinctive knocks on the door.
She tensed up the moment she did and reached for her knife, she couldn’t risk it.
"Hey Clementine, we need to talk," This was no doubt Rachel’s voice. Clementine quickly tucked away the knife and opened the door to converse with her.
Whatever it was, it had to be important for her to come here by this time.
The door opened and in came Rachel, her hair was rough and she looked exhausted.
"Are you okay? You look like crap," Clementine said bluntly as she closed the door behind her.
"I saw you bring in new people through the window. I wanted to come earlier but I had to wait until Lillian fell asleep. I didn’t want to tell her about this, not until I know what is going on," Rachel said and Clementine was glad that she took this course of action.
It was a smart choice especially if Clementine planned to dispose of the kids she would rather Lillian not know of their existence at all.
"The boy has been bitten but he hasn’t turned yet. The wound has closed up as well," Clementine told Rachel straight up, there was no point beating about the bush.
"That’s impossible! Are you sure it was from a zombie and not just some human?" Rachel asked and Clementine had entertained this possibility naturally.
She proceeded to tell Rachel every detail that surrounded her travel, Rachel was worried for Sam the moment she heard about the dogs because she had experienced first-hand how much of a threat they were.
"We should go look for Sam! He could need our help!" Rachel exclaimed; the urgency in her voice caught Clementine by surprise because she had no reason to be this worried about him.
"Sam is.... Sam is strong..." Clementine said; it was almost like she wanted to say something else but quickly realized who she was talking to so she had to change her dialogue.
"Are you sure?" Rachel asked, she respected the fact that they undertook such a dangerous task by themselves but if Sam was gone then this would mean that their fighting power had reduced without anything to show for it.
This was the worst case scenario but Rachel thought she would hold onto the belief that Clementine held.
These people were in the army, maybe she was underestimating them because if Sam did get the guns then he could dispose of the dogs but he would also be back.
"I’m certain, you should try and get some sleep. I think we have stayed here long enough, we move by sunrise." Clementine said but Rachel knew that these kids would slow them down.
However, it didn’t once come to her mind to abandon them, not even for a second.
She could only imagine how alone they were and with another kid, maybe her younger sister would open up.
She hoped that they could maintain this positive atmosphere as she was well aware that no one was safe. And she also knew what would befall her or any of the girls that fall into the hands of man’s evil nature.
Clementine’s positivity about Sam’s safety was misplaced, little did she know, Sam was about to enter the fight of his life.

Alex arrived but his body language changed the moment he did, he raised his hand into a fist as the men with him dispersed into the darkness.
Alex had seen Max’s corpse but he was unmoved by the sight, he held no love for him nor John but he knew the law.
And right now, Sam was the biggest threat on their list.
