System Of The Undead

Chapter 332: Story’s Conclusion PT. 6 [FIXED]

Chapter 332: Story’s Conclusion PT. 6 [FIXED]

Fate is something that people believe is written in stone as it is said if you know your fate and try to avoid it, those very actions will make it come to pass.

But what if this wasn’t true? What if fate is what you decide it to be?

[[You can save her.]

This was the voice within Jason but Chronos’ tone had changed with it’s new emergence.

Jason hadn’t absorbed all its essence but he could tell that Chronos was so much stronger than before.

But it was the variant in him that was in charge of it so there was a sense of relief that Jason felt.

"How can I do it?" Jason questioned, he could tell the damage within Rachel was fatal and there was no way to save her even if the community was still standing as they lacked the tools and accessory to treat internal damages to this extent.

Even with the necessary equipments, it would still be a miracle.

Jason now understood what she meant with her words, she didn’t wish for him to die because Lillian was now his responsible.

[[You need to finish the assimilation]]

Chronos informed him and Jason knew what this meant but he wasn’t going to allow Rachel to die.

He was going to do everything in his power to prevent this fate as he laid Rachel to the floor gently and walked towards Schneider who had a sickening look on his face.

"I got you," Schneider muttered but this was his attempt to rattle Jason.

An attempt that bore no fruit because Jason understood what he had to do at that moment.

He placed his hand on Schneider’s head.

[[Continue Assimilation? Y/N?]]

Jason accepted it, realizing that this might be the end of the road for him and in no time, Schneider’s body withered like a dying flower until it became shrivelled up.

[[Assimilation Complete!]]

[[infection: 100%!]]

[[Congratulations! You can now utilize all features of Nexus!]]

Jason felt his heartbeat halting, the light in his eyes dying the moment his heart came to a halt.

He couldn’t feel anything, no emotion, no pain, no desire, nothing but he knew one thing.

He had to save Rachel and without needing a manual, he naturally knew all the abilities he had acquired with this power.

Jason walked up to her and placed his hand on her torso.

[[Wound Detected!]]

Chronos reverted to acting like a system due to Jason effectively becoming the embodiment of Nexus and with Chronos rejoining with his superior half yet remaining in control.

"Heal her..." Jason commanded, his voice was cold but his stutter was dead.

[Damage Level: Critical!]]

[[Healing Failed!]]

Jason didn’t hesitate as he opened his mouth wide, his jaw dislocating as he regurgitated a tiny piece of fragment before sticking his hand down his throat to retrieve it.

Jason olaced it on her wound, her heart simultaneously came to a halt at that very moment but Jason wasn’t going to let her die.

[[Compatibility: 75%!]]

Jason didn’t need further instruction and the healing process began, the fragment fused with her, closing up her wound as it healed her body yet her heart wasn’t starting.

"Why isn’t her heart starting?" Despite not being able to feel anything, Jason felt uneasy by this revelation.

[[Her heart has come to a stop, I’m afraid she’s dead.]]

Chronos pronounced but Jason wasn’t going to accept this verdict.

"Do it..." This was all Jason said and Chronos knew exactly what he was implying.

[[Are you sure?]]

Chronos questioned but it didn’t need a verbal response from Jason to know the young man wasn’t going to change his mind.

And without further ado, Jason’s hand began to glow as he placed it on Rachel’s chest.

Jason knew something similar happend to him right before he became the Nexus and since he had fully assimilated with his new power.

He had control over the dead but what if he could bring the dead back to life?

The energy left Jason’s body and seeped into Rachel, one would think Jason couldn’t look any worse but that was wrong as his skin literally began to fall off his body.

However, it was worth it because Rachel’s heart restarted but this was only possible because he had infused a part of himself in her.

Chronos and him could no longer be differentiated because Jason became Chronos.

[[Heartbeat successfully restarted!]]

Chronos informed him but before Rachel’s eyes could open, Jason was nowhere to be seen.

But there was a paper on her chest, it was old and crumbled up, it was clear that it had been written weeks prior as the handwriting was already becoming a smudge despite the ink being dried up.

And Rachel knew deep down that this was the last time she was going to see him.

Her wound was healed but Rachel noticed that Schneider was no more.

"I-Is it really over?" Rachel muttered under her breath, promising not to read the letter until she got back to her sister.

-

Jason left the area but his body was breaking apart, there was no way he would remain intact at this rate without crumbling to dust.

He had accomplished everything he sought to accomplish but it came at this cost.

Jason knew that the undead were technically immortal but the form in which they live wasn’t certain.

He was conscious and self aware as well so there was only one thing left to do.

Jason used the last bit of his strength to find a place he could rest but he said one last thing before his final action.

"Do it Chronos..." Jason commanded and without further ado, he was crystallized in a dense fragment.

"Goodbye everyone," Jason muttered to himself as he soon became suspended.

The roots from the fragrant dug deep into the earth and connected with every other fragment around the world in little over an hour.

This was the power of the Nexus and Jason emitted a unique glow, it was blue.

And every fragmented rock that had cultivated over the months took that colour as it spread to every corner of the world as the undead all effectively fell under his control.

They would no longer hurt people, they would no longer seek them out, they would simply wander until the end of time.

Jason wished he could bring an end to this calamity entirely to make the dead remain dead but that was something he couldn’t do, at least not yet.

Jason understood that dying was no longer the end of life but this would be his final sacrifice to the world.

He granted them a chance at a new beginning as his eyes closed and he entered a deep slumber.

-

Sam was dancing on the brink of death as he took what should be his final breath but something embraced him.

He couldn’t tell what it was because it felt warm and kind, Sam felt safe.

He always thought that death would be a cruel fate, he always assumed that life was worth living as long as he was the one that survived.

Sam couldn’t think of anyone but himself and his survival yet here he was, risking his life to save the same woman he had thrown under the bus so many times.

Sam couldn’t explain it but he always thought that life was something people feel.

This was something he was unable to feel so he came to the conclusion that love wasn’t something he could ever find but he came to understand that love was never an emotion.

It was an action, the thing about feeling all of Clementine’s emotions was that he also understood she resented him but she never once gave up on him.

It was like her emotions conveyed every feeling she had felt in a lifetime acting as a gateway into her lost memories.

Sam floated through it, he thought these were his life flashing before his eyes but these weren’t his memories.

They belonged to Clementine and Sam for the first time, could associate actions with emotions.

He felt everything but why was it her memories playing in his head?

Sam’s eyes saw a figure covered in light holding him as he muttered under his breath.

"Death, is that you?" Sam asked but he felt a smack that brought him back to reality.

"W-WHAT!?" Sam jolted up and before him was Clementine, Sam stated at her for a moment.

"That’s for leaving me again..." Clementine said but she could tell without talking further that there was something different in him.

And without saying another word, Sam leaned in and kissed her but this kids had no hint of lust.

No, it was filled with genuine love and Clementine was startled to the point she had to momentarily pull away.

"Are you really Sam?" Clementine teased, partly serious because she didn’t know what had gotten into him but there was something strange.

She didn’t know why Sam was here or what had happened to him but for some reason, Sam’s arms had been reattached with his internal injuries healed so Clementine wasn’t aware of the severity of his his previous condition but there was only one explanation.

Jason, he had assimilated Chronos and this came with all the knowledge and information the parasite had gotten from Schneider, the smartest man in the world.

Reattaching his limbs and fixing his internal injuries was child’s play, he could do this the moment he became crystalized and connected with the roots running through the Earth’s surface, basically taking up the function initially planned for Clementine.

This was how she became free as well due to Jason’s power over all fragment, he was able to suppress the influence of the one in her, making it dormant.

Sam finally said the words she wished to hear all these years as Sam couldn’t explain what he was feeling, it was all new to him but he knew something for certain.

"I love you, Clementine."
