Chapter 316: Code Red!
Chapter 316: Code Red!
Dimitris and Co were heading back to the community but noticed this shouldn’t happen.
They should have had a free path but something was blocking their path and upon closer inspection, it was revealed to be the vehicles that Corey and his men had used.
"What is going on?" Rachel asked, surprised because they were attacked, their windows were blown open but there was something that Rachel recognized.
That spear she had previously seen in one of the horsemen’s hands.
She expected Dimitris to stop but was surprised that he didn’t as this wasn’t the kind of person she thought he was.
He struck her as someone who would do everything in his power to ensure everyone got out of this situation without a hitch even if they might have questionable character.
Rachel didn’t utter a word realizing that Dimitris must blame Corey and his gang for Glenn’s death.
Dimitris drove around the cars and hit the gas pedal so whatever that attacked them couldn’t catch up to them because he had no idea what was going to happen to them.
Dimitris instantly knew what was responsible for this attack and knew that they stood no chance.
But before they got far, a spear came crashing in from the back but missed Dimitris by an inch.
This was the second time the zombies failed to claim his life and he almost crashed into a nearby tree but his steering skills came to light.
He easily manoeuvred the car to her back on the road and stepped on the gas, Rachel was scared out of her mind because she couldn’t imagine what would have happened if that spear caught Dimitris.
However, they were now out of range of the zombies but there was a problem.
Dimitris realized that the spear might have missed him but whatever material they used to craft it wasn’t ordinary as they tore through metal like it was foam and this might have damaged the car a lot more than they initially thought.
The car slowly came to a halt after approximately ten minutes, they managed to get out of range but if the zombies were trailing them then it would only be a matter of time before they caught up to them.
Dimitris knew that they had no choice but to abandon this vehicle even though he was aware that they wouldn’t be able to get far.
He looked at his friend’s lifeless body in the backseat as he realized he had a decision to make.
Was he going to abandon him, that was the most logical choice but Rachel knew that this meant a lot to Dimitris.
She rushed to the backseat and picked up his body without saying a word, Dimitris’ eyes softened and Rachel immediately knew that the weight off his shoulder must have been lifted with this singular act.
She could tell that he was grateful for this act even though he didn’t say a word.
Dimitris knew that the spear would come in handy and yanked it from the car, they thought that the fire would cut down their numbers but they were still very much a threat even with their reduced number.
"Are you okay?" Dimitris asked Rachel, he knew that the emotional toll of Glenn’s loss might have affected her more than he realized and he needed to make sure she was in the best condition.
"I will survive, we have more urgent things to worry about now. We need to find another car. I have no idea but it feels like these things want to keep us here," Rachel muttered.
The attack on their vehicle was necessary, they had a certain level of IQ but this didn’t include emotions.
That means their decision to attack them the way they did was logical so why did the zombies want them here?

Mariam watched over the community and ruled with an iron fist, she understood that this world could be salvaged if they played their cards right.
She also got new information regarding what Jason did that night and wanted to know why he killed a child in cold blood.
There was no way he would want to harm Lillian considering that it was Jason that vouched for him.
Something was conflicting about this story but Mariam didn’t have enough information to draw up anything concrete; could it be that Allison might have suffered a similar fate?
That was possible because be it as it may, Allison was one of the most experienced fighters here and if anyone was to survive this attack, it would be her.
That could mean that just like the child, Allison could have been killed but then what happened to Jason? It wasn’t adding up just yet but Mariam felt like she was closer to unraveling the mystery.
Mariam knew she had to keep her son close or he might be caught up in this mess.
This community was her life but the thing about these people was they had no idea how bad it was beyond the walls.
They have been protected by their walls and the first glimpse they got at the dangers beyond the walls.
Carl took Allison’s vacant spot but he spent the night talking to Shantel, they both needed to find people that could come through for them.
Carl was stationed on the wall, watching the perimeter but he noticed that for the first time in over a year, a zombie was approaching the wall
This was a normal zombie that even a kid could take care of, the jaws had fallen off his face so that meant that it had no lower mouth hence it couldn’t even bite them even if they wanted to.
Carl didn’t instruct anyone to kill it because then they would have to burn it.
The chances that it would go in the opposite direction after some time were high as these things were easily distracted but Carl knew that this couldn’t be a coincidence.
There had to be a reason for this but then he realized that this was just the beginning as he saw a few dozen more coming towards the community.
"What the hell is going on?" Carl thought to himself upon realizing that they might be in a lot more trouble than he initially thought but he couldn’t scare the people within the walls.
He asked one of the people present there to report the abnormality to his mother because they were short-staffed. Corey and Dimitris were gone but they had other competent fighters but Carl didn’t want to bother them with something as simple as this.
Car was contemplating how they would get rid of the zombies because, for some reason, they just kept spawning as he realized what this was at that moment.
"This is a horde...!" Carl thought to himself, a year of not encountering the dead only to be met by a horde the first time they did.
"What should we do, Carl?" A man asked them, Carl noticed that one of the men mounted on the wall was about to open fire.
"DON’T!!" Carl commanded but the thing about his position was that people didn’t respect him as the only qualification he had was that he was Mariam’s son.
He hadn’t earned their respect yet even though this was a temporary position as Corey and Dimitris were gone so he acted as a substitute until they returned.
The man listened to Corey even though he had an irritated look plastered across his face but this didn’t matter.
He couldn’t risk it, gunfire would only draw more, there had to be a reason they suddenly appeared but Carl had an idea.
They could draw them away from the community by playing loud music in one of the cars as it drove away.
This would be optimal as it would not only reduce the risk but effectively draw out the other zombies that could potentially be lurking around but he knew he couldn’t carry out this plan alone.
That was where Mick came in, he was the man who outranked Corey but for some reason, he had no interest in assuming any position of note in the community so even if Corey was his superior, he still listened to everything Mick said.
But Mick was shrouded in mystery, he didn’t cause much trouble but he was rarely seen as well.
He was like a background character and Carl knew he had to keep an eye on him as there was no telling what could happen.
Mick walked up to Carl despite having not been there previously, this meant that someone had informed him once again highlighting Carl’s lack of control.
"Mick..." Carl said but Mick didn’t acknowledge him, he had the people’s respect and he saw the zombies down but this didn’t phase him.
He looked at Carl and noticed the boy was looking at the car below and instantly knew what he was thinking about.
"The car to draw them away?" Mick said, surprising Carl.
This was a decent plan but what would happen if the zombies returned with an even bigger horde?
"No, that won’t do. We will get rid of them now..." Mick said as he descended the wall with a group of people.
Carl was against it but there was nothing he could do in this situation. He also knew that there was a chance that things could escalate because the zombies, even now, still kept coming.
"Something is off..."
