Chapter 251: A Twist In Fate?
Chapter 251: A Twist In Fate?
Glenn was nearing the end of his life and all they could do was make sure that he would die as comfortably as possible.
Rachel couldn’t believe it because this could have easily been Jason in this situation.
She held in her tears because she couldn’t lose it just yet but she was scared to the core.
Trembling, she wondered how much rest Mathias was getting because he might not be here to witness Glenn’s last moments.
Glenn was lively, he did everything in his power to help those around him regardless of the consequences.
He was one of the few good people left in the world.
Glenn’s mouth opened, trying his best to utter a word but was too weak to turn it to speech.
Rachel knew that he needed every ounce of strength he could muster.
But whatever he wanted to say was that important, she leaned in closer to hear the dying words of Glenn.
The moment she heard what came out of her lips, she clasped her mouth shut and the tears she was fighting so hard to keep back streamed down her cheeks.
"H-Hey you can’t be here!" A guard screamed at the entrance, this made Josephine wonder what was causing the commotion.
She rushed to the entrance only for her eyes to see a person she couldn’t have guessed in a million years would be here.
"What are you doing here?" Josephine questioned sternly but the only response she got was a pointed finger.
It was the child that had just been rescued but what was he doing here, how did he find this location without getting lost? Josephine didn’t know how the outside world worked so she didn’t know about evolved zombies or any of the other details that the raiders kept to themselves.
The boy didn’t say anything, all he did was point towards where Glenn was even though he didn’t have an idea which room he was in.
They had other patients so this couldn’t be a coincidence, she understood that much.
There was nothing to lose and she knew that Glenn might have made an impression on the boy.
It could also mean that this boy might be the reason that Glenn was in this state in the first place.
She sighed before stepping aside, watching the boy walk right in; the guards didn’t like this decision but they couldn’t oppose it.
The boy walked right into the tent and saw Rachel sobbing, he didn’t know any of these people but Glenn was a friend of the man who saved him and in turn, an important person to him.
Rachel noticed that the boy didn’t show any emotional distress and just watched her before turning his attention to Glenn.
He began walking towards Glenn and Rachel was cautious because she didn’t know who or what this boy was because she was a lot more educated when it came to evolved zombies.
She also knew that Jason wasn’t a normal human even though she didn’t realize that this boy was a unique creature as well.
A mutant that had managed to absorb the fragment differently.
How much harm could a child possibly do?
Rachel thought to herself before stepping aside and allowing him to get close to Glenn.
The boy placed his hand on his chest before running it down his stomach.
This was where his injury was, the people around wanted to stop him but Rachel gestured for them to allow him to stand down.
They had nothing to lose and Rachel was aware that there was a lot she didn’t understand about this new world
The boy ripped open his bandage and this was when Rachel knew she had to stop him but she felt a hand grab her shoulder.
"Mathias?" Rachel blurted out, Mathias had come in just in time to see what was about to happen but he was smart enough to take measures to make sure that no one would see what was about to happen.
"Everyone but Rachel should leave," Mathias commanded and this surprised them but they had no problems with his instruction.
The boy sniffed the wound before sinking his teeth into it, Glenn’s body didn’t even react to the pain because it was already battling to pump enough oxygen to keep the brain alive.
This was the most important thing because even if one should die and come back to life if the brain was dead then there was nothing to be done.
"What the hell are you doing!?" Rachel barked but the boy kept sucking away like a vampire and they noticed that his veins were glowing green, it was like he was taking in radiation.
"Watch," Mathias said, Rachel was surprised that he was this calm, telling her he knew a lot more than he was letting on.
Rachel calmed down and watched the boy do what he was doing before he retracted his head backwards.
The boy’s mouth was covered in blood, this wasn’t only unhealthy but the chances that he would infect himself as well were extraordinarily high.
This was reckless and Mathias was putting the kid in danger but funny enough, Rachel trusted him.
Glenn’s body immediately loosened up the moment the boy was done prompting Rachel to rush to his side to check if he was still breathing.
"I can’t believe this!" Rachel exclaimed, Glenn’s fever had not only broken but his temperature was already coming down.
It was almost like whatever was poisoning him had disappeared from his bloodstream.
Dimitris watched on but he wasn’t surprised, he knew that there was something wrong with Jason but to think that such a creature existed only reaffirmed his belief that Jason wasn’t human.
"General, it is as you told me. It looks like the zombies might not be the only ones able to use the fragments," Mathias said.
"Rachel, step away from the kid," Dimitris instructed her but Rachel was confused considering that this boy had just saved Glenn’s life.
"What do you mean to step away from him?" Rachel asked but Mathias grabbed her from behind because he knew what would happen if she opposed Dimitris.
It couldn’t be helped, this boy might have saved Glenn but he was a threat due to showing powers that they couldn’t understand. This would be the right thing to do.
The fact that Mathias was aware of this showed that his relationship with Dimitris was a lot different than she had thought.
But what was the fate that awaited the child?
