Chapter 245: Who Is it?
Chapter 245: Who Is it?
Clementine knew she had to confront Anderson but there was a high chance he could be a soldier disguised as a civilian to find out what they knew, this was a possibility that she didn’t overlook.
This meant that she had to be more careful even though Jones would make sure nothing happened to her but she couldn’t fully rely on him either.
The military had rankings and there was nothing he could do if it was his superior that wished for it.
Clementine noticed the usual rounds of food, they were given canned food once again but their reserves must be huge if they could feed these many people and themselves for six months.
"Did you even get a wink of sleep?" Samantha asked, noticing that her friend was developing eye bags.
Clementine smiled, her blue eyes dulled and frankly, she looked exhausted.
"I will sleep, I promise," Clementine reassured her friend with a smile.
Samantha felt closer to her, her nonchalant facade slowly breaking but Clementine had a mission.
Anderson caught her looking at him and Clementine looked away immediately.
This was what one would call flirting with the eyes as it would inevitably create tension and put the other person’s attention on you subconsciously because Anderson was now looking in her direction every couple of seconds to minutes to see if she was looking at him and she allowed him to catch her every once in a while, placing her hair behind her left ear.
Anderson eventually couldn’t contain himself because even in her exhausted state, she was still a stunning woman.
"Hey..." Anderson started the conversation, taking a seat beside her.
Samantha looked confused as to why he was even here considering how their last interaction went.
It was a bit suspicious that he was starting the conversation but Samantha kept quiet.
"Hi you," Clementine responded, the way she could weaponize her femininity was admirable as she could easily manipulate everyone around her to perceive her differently.
Samantha was beginning to wonder if she was an undercover cop or a con artist before the world fell.
She watched as Anderson began the conversation with small talk and Clementine reciprocated while not veering off topic, not even for a second, giving Anderson the illusion of control.
It didn’t take long for him to start talking about himself even though Clementine didn’t ask but she gave him her full attention which only encouraged him to keep talking.
She realized that Anderson was a security guard before the world ended but he lived a rather mundane life even with this as an occupation which was to be expected.
Clementine didn’t give him space to ask questions about her because she focused entirely on him.
And men, in general, aren’t used to this sort of treatment as they are usually the ones showing interest in the lives of the women around them so this was why Anderson couldn’t stop himself.
He knew that his life was boring and Clementine knew that he would be eager to impress her with anything impressive he had done after the world fell.
"You are quite capable, I’m no longer surprised you survived for this long. You must have been a master of stealth," Clementine praised him but this was an underhanded jab at his ego as it implied he survived by hiding.
Anderson laughed and shook his head to refute this and there it was, he began to divulge the information that Clementine was curious about.
"You’re wrong. On the contrary, I have had quite an adventurous life. I have killed over a hundred zombies and I also met a doctor that was working on a cure before some mad soldier came and cut off his limbs." Anderson blurted out but he quickly clasped his mouth shut the moment he realized what he had done.
This wasn’t information he was supposed to say out loud but the intrigued look in Clementine’s blue eyes made it hard to resist.
She didn’t hide her amazement, pretending to believe he had killed over a hundred zombies but the doctor part got her curious as well as the mad soldier.
"You must be a big strong man to kill over a hundred zombies! I bet you can defend any woman by your side!" Clementine exclaimed to which Anderson scratched his head in embarrassment.
There weren’t a lot of pretty women left, it was a rare occurrence so Clementine’s charm was maximized by this fact.
"I’m not that great but I will protect any woman I fancy," Anderson responded but the suggestive tone was clear.
He was referring to Clementine and Clementine placed her hand over her mouth.
"I’m sure someone like you has a lot of admirers but if they can find a cure, maybe we wouldn’t have to worry about this," Clementine said, slowly taking control of the conversation.
She intentionally used ’us’ to give an ambiguous interpretation as it could easily be interpreted as she and him together.
"I’m afraid that will be impossible, the doctor was never looking for a cure for humanity, he was looking to control the zombies," Anderson blurted out in disappointment.
Almost flustered that he believed that they could be a cure, Clementine noticed the change in his demeanour as he clenched his fist.
"That bastard thought the only way to control them was to become one of them..." Anderson said and Clementine realized that they were reaching a breakthrough.
Anderson felt a hand over his as Clementine tried her best to show him that she was there for him.
"It is alright, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to," Clementine reassured him and Samantha was speechless, it was like she was watching a witch at work.
There was no way that Clementine was an ordinary woman, she was far too manipulative to be.
"I’m okay, I should have listened to him..." Anderson said.
"You should have listened to who?" Clementine questioned but before she could answer, someone within the camp began to convulse aggressively, interrupting their conversation.
The soldiers rushed towards the threat and took the woman away but Clementine had made one grave miscalculation.
A soldier had witnessed her placing her hand on Anderson’s own and no one knew how Jones would react if he found out that the woman he had offered his protection was showing interest in another man.
