System Of The Undead

Chapter 180: The Strongest Zombie Yet!?

Chapter 180: The Strongest Zombie Yet!?

Jason was frightened but who wouldn’t be? There was no way in hell he would have imagined himself in this situation.

There were two evolved zombies right in front of him and he had to find a way to survive this situation.

The gorilla’s attention suddenly shifted to Jason and without warning, charged right at him.

Jason might have deactivated his skill but this didn’t mean he wouldn’t feel the recoil of it.

But he was saved, the zombie that the gorilla had hit sunk its teeth right into his neck.

It buried it so deep that the only way to escape its grasp would result in the gorilla losing a huge chunk of its flesh. This was how strong the jaws of the zombie were.

If it was alive, this would have been a fatal wound but unfortunately, it was dead meaning that this wound could have well been a scratch.

Jason realized that these monsters were on a different level and it was clear that they responded to the fragment that was closest to them.

They hunted the prey closest to them and Jason knew he should be safe as long as he wasn’t within their immediate range.

Jason used this opportunity to increase their distance, his stamina was low so that meant that his body wouldn’t be able to keep up with the battle.

The gorilla slapped the other zombie away like a fly, sending him flying like a ragdoll.

It began to beat its chest and this was a mannerism that was common with gorillas.

Jason wasn’t sure if this was muscle memory or if they had intelligence.

There was no doubt that the other zombie was a lot smarter than the gorilla as it seemed to be constantly analyzing the situation.

Jason was aware that it was eating brains or that it could assimilate the memory of those it devoured due to Chronos informing him.

The effect of that was that this gave the zombie multiple muscle memories to react from, there wasn’t any sign of intelligence but Jason didn’t know this, there was no way he could/

However, none of it would matter if the gorilla could take care of it.

The gorilla slammed right into the zombie and tried to sink its teeth right into its chest but the zombie threw its arm in the way.

"What?" Jason thought, he knew that these evolved zombies always protected their vulnerable spots but what vulnerable spot could be in its chest?

"The fragment!" Jason finally realized what was happening but the other zombies he had fought never protected their fragment but rather, their head.

It grabbed the gorilla by the neck and slammed it into the ground, there was something different about its fighting style.

The gorilla acted like a zombie but this zombie was fighting to weaken it, it was like it knew that it couldn’t kill it.

This was due to the memories it had assimilated and it understood the concept of what a zombie was more than it should hence why its body was performing these actions without any thought, Jason was gaining new information watching this fight with the help of Chronos.

Part of him expected them to work together because they were both undead but this was a weight off his shoulder.

He remembered Brayden’s warning about not shooting it begging the question of how he was supposed to kill it.

The fact that it could lift a gorilla and smash it on the ground showed he had enhanced physical strength, one blow from that would fuck him up.

The gorilla sunk its teeth into the arm holding it, specifically the forearm.

Jason noticed that the gorilla was the only thing acting like a zombie right now.

The other was acting more like a human than a zombie and this gave it the upper hand.

The gorilla ripped off the arm it had bitten and Jason knew that "intelligence" might not do it any good.

The gorilla was naturally blessed with this aggression, something that the other zombie couldn’t seem to have.

With its arm ripped off, it meant that the gorilla was free and the other zombie now had limited ways to defend itself.

The gorilla jumped on it and began to just bite away at its neck like some deranged animal.

The zombie tried to defend itself but to no avail, Jason was glad that the gorilla was winning because he was uneasy with the way this other zombie was.

"Kill it!" Jason muttered to himself but what happened next shocked him.

The zombie grabbed the gorilla by the neck but this shouldn’t have been possible considering that the arm it used had been ripped off mere moments ago.

"What the fuck? It regenerated!?" Jason thought to himself.

[[Wrong, the zombie uses the body parts it has devoured as spares. The composition of the arm is a lot thinner than the other and has less muscle mass as well]]

Jason was informed by the reemerged Chronso and this made sense.

There was no way it could regenerate but he had bigger problems.

The gorilla was done for as its mouth loosened like a snake and it bit off the gorilla’s head with one large bite.

The gorilla was dead... again, but the zombie tried to devour the whole body after that.

Jason knew he couldn’t allow that because that meant it would have the fragment.

Jason aimed his gun right at its head and fired away, the bullets tore through the air as he had no other choice.

The zombie used its other arm as a shield for the bullets but Jason didn’t relent.

He kept on shooting while running to close the distance as long as it was on the defensive, it couldn’t attack him.

Jason knew he could use Nexus for approximately a few seconds, a minute at best but he had to be close enough before he activated it.

Maybe, just maybe it would be enough to prevent this from happening.

"Just a little longer!" Jason muttered to himself as he was slowly closing the distance.

The zombie, however, had no intention of waiting and quickly began to sprint away from Jason.

It knew what Jason was and was trying to do, the zombie had every intention of devouring this gorilla before facing Jason.

"Fucking hell!| Jason muttered because the zombie was a lot faster than he was and in his tired state, he couldn’t even catch up to it.

And this wasn’t all Jason saw, he would soon understand why Brayden told him not to shoot the zombie.

The zombie pointed its other hand in his direction and returned the bullets that it had just been fired with and Jason could barely avoid it.

Jason was terrified because he knew what might happen if this zombie got the fragment inside the gorilla. It would be unstoppable and Jason couldn’t have that.

This zombie has been devouring humans for how long, there was no telling how powerful it currently was and how many memories it could pull from.

Jason noticed its accuracy was terrible, it had missed him despite him being in the open.

This zombie had the potential to continuously evolve and Jason knew he had to take cover.

He fucked down for safety measures, he wasn’t a zombie that could tank such damage.

"I failed..." Jason muttered under his breath as he watched the zombie devour the gorilla.

It swallowed him whole like it had done Debra and Jason knew he had to get out of there.

There was no way he could beat this monster in his current state.

This was when the zombie focused its attention on Jason, Jason knew that he needed to run but his legs were heavy.

The fatigue was kicking in but Jason remembered that it took some time for him to assimilate the fragment, there was a whole process behind it.

This zombie, there was no way that it could have assimilated it in mere seconds, there had to be a chance.

[[Zombie’s assimilation of the fragment at 27%!]] Chronos informed him.

Jason needed to take a chance but a gunshot echoed with the zombie’s lower torso having a huge hole in it.

"Clementine!?" Jason muttered and the reason that the zombie accumulated that much damage was because it was a shotgun she used.

The zombie immediately bolted in the other direction, Clementine didn’t need to shoot it again because it was out of range but something told her she just saved Jason.

"Glad to see me?" Clementine asked with a grin but Jason didn’t have a look of relief on his face.

"W-We have to kill it..." Jason muttered, getting to his feet but he nearly stumbled.

"What?" Clementine asked but Jason couldn’t risk this zombie following them.

"We have to kill it before it assimilates it!" Jason warned her.

"Jason, you’re lucky to be alive! We need to get out of here now!" Clementine warned.

"No... You do not understand! If we fail... None of us will get out of here alive!"
