Chapter 175: A Glimpse Of Hope?
Chapter 175: A Glimpse Of Hope?
Things escalated and everyone was facing their respective battles but who was most in danger right now was Franklin.
Brayden didn’t rush into the house, he didn’t want to put his life at risk if Franklin was already dead.
What he heard next were gunshots and this was his cue to rush into the building with his gun in hand. He saw the zombie slumped over a motionless Franklin.
Brayden gulped as he inched towards Franklin, he didn’t know if he was dead or alive.
"Franklin buddy, you breathing?" Brayden said and the zombie was moved to reveal Franklin.
"... Barely, that was a scare," Franklin muttered, the zombie before them was deformed but it wasn’t like the one that Jason had fought.
Franklin was surprised that this zombie even could charge at him that way, he didn’t know what was happening but these zombies no longer seemed normal.
"That zombie, what was it?" Brayden asked, there was no way that a normal zombie would get him to react the way he did and more so, drag him.
Zombies only cared about sinking their teeth into their prey, nothing else concerned them.
Franklin was helped to his feet by Brayden but the man was covered in zombie guts.
He then remembered that they could travel unperceived if they rubbed the guts on their body.
Should he reveal this information to Brayden or should he keep this secret to himself considering he was the only one currently covered in it?
This meant that he didn’t need to disclose this information to anyone as long as he was safe.
These people weren’t allies and could easily become enemies at the drop of a heart.
The situation with Kenny was proof of that, Andre made it clear that he wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet through his head should he put them in danger.
"I have no idea but the physical strength was something else, I couldn’t fight back," Franklin said.
Brayden knew this area was bad news, they had to get out of there as soon as possible.
These zombies weren’t normal and if there existed a horde of them then they were doomed.
The only reason that they could escape these hordes was because they were slow but what if a horde consisted of these strange zombies?
Fighting one was difficult enough, not taking into consideration fighting multiple of them simultaneously was hopeless.
Franklin knew that Brayden was right, the others should be finishing up too so as they returned, they should be on their way.
"Where the fuck are you Debra?" Franklin cussed under his breath.
-
A lady was in a darkened room, a hand placed around her mouth because she didn’t want to breathe.
She felt that this zombie could perceive everything, she didn’t know how she got into this mess but at least, the community should be getting food now.
Debra hoped that it wouldn’t find her but for some reason, it always did.
Debra knew she needed to get out of there but she was running out of strength, she barely survived the attack of the vulture even if it came at the cost of giving away her position.
Debra heard gunshots in the distance but for some reason, this zombie didn’t head in that direction as it should but instead decided to stay around Debra.
It hovered, growling and sniffing but Debra knew it was only a matter of time before it found her.
However, something happened, the zombie began to walk away from her and out of the building.
Debra heaved a loud sigh of relief and stuck out her head to see if it had truly gone.
It was no longer there and Debra knew now was her chance.
Without wasting any time, she ran towards the broken door and onto the road but she was hit by something powerful. It sent her flying and crashing into the nearby pavement.
"W-What!?" Debar muttered in pain, she tried to regain her composure but the hit was a lot harder than she had anticipated.
She couldn’t believe that the zombie was that strong to begin with but she was aware that this zombie didn’t bite people but instead, consumed their brains.
She had to make sure it didn’t grab her, the zombie had left the building and waited for her outside before it pounced on her.
This caught her off guard and she knew she was in trouble, she couldn’t hide any longer because she knew how strong a zombie’s nose was.
And now, she was bleeding so there was no way that it wouldn’t perceive the blood.
Debra clenched her teeth, she knew that things weren’t looking up but she wasn’t going to let the zombie have its way.
She opened fire, emptying her clip into the zombie’s body but to no avail.
It stood there, unfazed and now it was ready to devour her brain.
Debra watched it walk towards her and quickly took out her pistol and pointed it to her temple.
She was ready to pull the trigger, there was no way she was going to give this zombie the satisfaction of devouring her brain.
However, she heard a gunshot in the distance, almost like it was responding to her earlier barrage.
Debra knew she couldn’t be imagining it and there was only one person that could do this.
A smile crept up on her face as she muttered to herself.
"Franklin,"

Andre heard the gunshots in the distance and wondered what it was that they could have run into to prompt them to use their weapons even though the echo of one was farther than the others.
Andre couldn’t hide his concern, he wondered what was going on but he could only trust that Brayden was more than capable of handling whatever it was they were facing.
He was all done on his side with no incident, Andre was surprised that it was this easy, this area was one of those areas that they had marked off for good reason so it shouldn’t be this easy.
He didn’t know if Franklin’s people took out the majority of the zombies or not but he was sure of one thing.
Andre sighed and looked around to see if they were all done, his people were waiting for his next instruction.
They had two options, abandon Brayden and Franklin or hold onto the hope that they would return.
Andre couldn’t lie to himself, if it was anyone else, he would have left them in a heartbeat but Brayden was someone he couldn’t do without.
"The car..." Andre muttered to himself.
The man beside him could barely hear what it was that he had just said.
"Excuse me, sir?" He inquired.
"The car, I need two people with me, the rest of you should secure this area. I will be back shortly," Andre said as he hopped into the car without hesitation.
Kenny was injured and didn’t understand why these people weren’t leaving the area but instead, chose to hang back.
That was such a strange decision because, in Kenny’s head, Franklin and whoever that was were dead.
There was no way they could survive the danger that awaited them.
Kenny knew he had to get out of here but he had to wait for the perfect moment to do so.
He watched Andre speed off with a few of his men in the direction that Franklin walked off to.
He knew with a car, he should be catching up to them in no time giving him a limited window to act.

Back in the community, things were heating up as Rachel managed to swipe the pills that Bella had spoken to her about.
She knew she could get in serious trouble for this and possibly expelled from the community should this information leak but she was willing to do everything in her power to make sure this remains a safe haven for her and Lillian.
She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty to secure this future.
Bella soon walked into the hospital with a wound on her hand and she found Rachel with this excuse.
This wound was self-inflicted and wasn’t something serious.
A little first aid could have easily fixed it but this was her key to entering the hospital without suspicion.
Rachel helped her stitch it while slipping the drugs into her pocket.
There was a probability that she would be searched but considering the rank she held, that was unlikely.
After all, what kind of foul play could go on in that building that would be so dangerous?
"Be careful..." Rachel whispered to her and Bella nodded in response.
"You too..." Bella said but what this lady didn’t know was that Josephine was watching them.
Josephine grew suspicious after her earlier run-in with Rachel and knew that she was up to something and this was confirmation of that.
Bella had taken a step out the door before Josephine shouted.
"WAIT!" Bella froze in place as Dimitris’s men’s attention was focused solely on her.
Rachel looked worried because the look on Josephine’s face showed that she knew exactly what was going on but would she be the one to doom them?
