System Of The Undead

Chapter 171: Kenny

Chapter 171: Kenny

Andre knew that they were dealing with an abnormal zombie but he couldn’t bring it to the attention of others or they would become worried.

He couldn’t risk it and Andre told Brayden to keep it under wraps.

He, Brayden and Franklin knew exactly what it was that they were dealing with but there was one thing that they had that these people didn’t.

That was firepower, they had weapons to fight back.

"Let’s move," Andre commanded and everyone got back in their respective vehicles and began their journey to their destination.

They were back on the road and Franklin was worried that they might encounter something that they wouldn’t have the ability to deal with.

He couldn’t risk it and needed to put his safety first above all else otherwise all of this would have been in vain.

Franklin knew that these zombies were threats and couldn’t be taken lightly, even those that walked as all it took was a bite to fuck them all up.

"Franklin, what do you think?" Brayden asked; the person that was in the car with them was dozing off, he needed the shut-eye even though they were nearing their destination.

"About?" Franklin asked, he was a tad bit distracted.

"The elephant in the room, the brain-eating creature?" Brayden said.

Franklin sighed, he didn’t have the mental strength for such a conversation right now but he knew it needed to be had.

"I think whatever that was got my team," Franklin said bluntly.

He knew that they wouldn’t have opened fire carelessly on a bunch of zombies, the fact that they did meant that they had to do so.

It was an action that they couldn’t avoid and this made Franklin worried that they might encounter another evolved zombie.

He knew that if they did, they would be slaughtered without a chance at surviving.

Franklin knew that this wouldn’t be enough but he had a secret that none of them knew about.

How to hide your scent from a zombie, this should allow him to walk around even with an evolved zombie walking around.

The evolved zombies in the hospital only spotted them because of the sounds that they made.

The zombie might not be able to smell them but they knew that the dead couldn’t speak.

Jason might be the missing piece that they needed, they needed to find a way to survive this.

"What is wrong with you man? You spacing out a lot," Brayden said and this brought Franklin back to reality.

"I must be tired," Franklin responded.

"You and I brother... Something tells me this is just the beginning of our week," Brayden said but Franklin didn’t give him a verbal response.

They arrived at their destination at long last after a few more minutes, the car came to an abrupt halt but no one came out of it.

They inspected their environment without getting out of the car, they couldn’t risk it.

They were surprised that they saw no zombies, the horde seemed to have gathered in that location and they were lucky that they drove around it.

They had time to work with but they needed to move fast otherwise things could potentially escalate.

They didn’t know when the zombies would return and they couldn’t risk it either.

Andre was the first to leave the car and there was something about the air.

It smelled of death and blood, his gut was telling him to leave this place at once but they needed the supplies.

Franklin’s eyes soon saw something that confirmed that they were in the right place.

It was the car that Debra and her team had taken off in, Franklin’s heart sank the moment he established visuals as it could only mean one thing.

"No...No.... No..." Frankly muttered to himself as he rushed towards the car.

Brayden tried to stop him as they had no idea what was there, they hadn’t even swept the place for any abnormalities.

Franklin didn’t listen to him, he was preoccupied with what could have happened to them.

Andre didn’t bother stopping him, Franklin was grown and could make his own decisions.

And this was why Brayden didn’t restrain him, all it took was a look from Andre to keep him in check. They were friends but Brayden gave Andre the respect that came with his title.

Franklin reached the car and began to search it for something, they could only assume he was hoping that one of them had hidden inside.

However, the car was empty but it had goods in it, this meant that they were successful in packing up the goods but something must have happened to them.

Franklin clenched his fist, he clenched it so hard that blood began to drip to the ground.

"Fuck!" This was the first time that they had seen Franklin lose his cool but who could blame him?

Andre knew he might react the same if anything happened to Brayden, he needed to mourn.

He needed to come to terms with the fact that his people had died even though he was more than likely to hold onto peace.

He needed that illusion to keep him going but there was a dilemma, the place had already been raided judging by the amount of provisions within but there had to be more inside.

Andre wanted to get some for his people so he planned on entering the store to retrieve the goods that might be left behind.

They couldn’t go back empty-handed but he wondered if he needed to hold his end of the bargain as there was a car in perfect condition right here and without Jason nor Clementine.

There was no way for him to take two cars back with him but Franklin heard something in the trunk and immediately equipped his gun.

Franklin was filled with both hope and fear as to what could be in the trunk.

Andre watched on, he wanted to see how capable this man was in dealing with such situations, giving Brayden a look as if to tell him to stay put.

Franklin popped the trunk open and he was ready to open fire if it wasn’t someone he knew.

"Kenny?" Franklin muttered as he lowered his gun, Kenny was weak and dehydrated but he was alive.

"F-F-Franklin?" Kenny muttered.

"Hey! I need some help over here!" Franklin requested and Andre permitted his men to offer him this assistance because he knew how important this man could prove to be.

They took a couple of minutes and allowed the man to regain his composure.

He was treated and Kenny’s body language was a lot calmer than when he first saw them.

"Where is she?" Franklin asked, he didn’t even bother asking if he was okay and went straight to the point.

"WHERE IS DEBRA!?" Franklin screamed at the top of his lungs, Andre had to rip him off Kenny or he might have done harm to him.

"Control yourself," Andre said before shoving Franklin to the back as he walked towards the man.

"What did this?" Andre asked, he wasn’t directly affected so his questions were a lot more logical.

"I-It was a zombie, it was like nothing we have ever seen... THE ZOMBIE WAS EATING THEIR BRAINS! I WAS SO FUCKING SCARED! I DON’T KNOW WHERE DEBRA IS BUT SHE DREW THE ZOMBIE AWAY FROM HERE SO I COULD RETURN TO THE CAMP!" Kenny lost his cool.

"Hey, calm down," Andre tried to ease his panic but this didn’t work.

Kenny’s eyes darted around, looking for the zombie but he couldn’t establish any visuals.

Kenny stood and ran into the distance, Franklin was confused as to what he was still doing here if Debra went through all that trouble to ensure that he could take these goods back to them.

Franklin raised his gun and fired a bullet right into the leg of the fleeing man, the gun echoed and Andre was startled by this.

Brayden snatched the gun out of his hand because this gunshot just gave away their position.

"What are you doing?" Brayden asked with his gun pointed at Franklin’s head.

Kenny fell to the floor and his men quickly retrieved him.

They needed to stop the bleeding and they hoped that an artery wasn’t hit or he would bleed out even if they applied pressure on the wound.

"This bastard made her risk her life in vain," Franklin blurted out but Brayden wasn’t hearing any of it.

"He has information that we need to deal with this zombie and you would jeopardize it because a girl is missing?" Andre asked Franklin before gesturing for Brayden to lower the gun.

"If you want to die, then you can do that but don’t you dare put my people in danger or I won’t be so forgiving next time," Andre stamped his authority, reminding Franklin that he was in his world.

Franklin kissed his teeth in irritation as he accepted that this was his bad, he allowed his emotions to get the better of him but this only made people question his relationship with this woman named Debra.
