Chapter 387 - 141: You Want to Control My Marriage
"Justice?" Jie Jingchen scoffed. "Are you sure you don’t have that backward?"
"Jie Jingchen, what do you mean by that?" Jie Anlin understood but pretended not to.
Seeing Jie Jingchen speak up, Jie Jianjun immediately asked, "Jing Si, we’re family. Today, your Second Uncle needs you to take a side. Are you helping your cousin, or your brother-in-law?"
"My brother-in-law." Jie Jingchen didn’t hesitate for a second. Even if Qin Xiang weren’t his brother-in-law, given their relationship, he would have stood by Qin Xiang without a second thought.
"You..." Jie Jianjun glared at Jie Jingchen. "So completely disregarding family ties... Who taught you to be like this? Your mother?"
"Qin Xiang is on the side of justice, and Jie Anqi is on the side of evil. I’m obviously going to uphold justice, not aid a villain," Jie Jingchen said with a straight face.
"You’re the one aiding a villain by helping your brother-in-law!" Jie Jianjun slammed the table and stood up, glaring at Jie Jingchen.
"Who’s righteous and who’s wicked... Second Uncle, you all know the answer in your hearts." Jie Jingchen’s thick brows knitted together, his cold face tense. He rubbed his brow with his long fingers. "Second Uncle, let me remind you: you can’t afford to provoke someone with Qin Xiang’s status. Don’t even think about slandering him. You can’t bear the consequences. If this blows up, not even my mother will be able to clean up your mess."
Jie Jianjun’s expression turned grave. If someone else had said this, he could have ignored it, but coming from Jing Si, he had to consider it carefully.
"So what if he’s a soldier? Does that make him so special?" Jie Anlin’s face was full of scorn. He was young and inexperienced, not one for complicated considerations. He had never been exposed to complex interpersonal relationships. Spoiled by his granny and indulged by his family, he did as he pleased with a devil-may-care attitude, ready to repay any slight. Of course, that would be a good thing, if only he could tell right from wrong.
Jie Jingchen’s eyes narrowed, a flash of killing intent glinting within them. "There’s nothing special about being a soldier. But that doesn’t mean you can just slander one whenever you please. If it’s serious enough, it’ll go to a military tribunal."
Hearing this, Jie Jianjun’s body trembled violently, and his blood ran cold.
"We didn’t slander him, and we’re not afraid of any military tribunal," Granny said stubbornly, puffing out her chest.
’Her thinking was simple. As long as Jie Anqi stuck to her story about Qin Xiang and didn’t back down, he would have no choice but to give in. There are no witnesses when it comes to affairs between men and women, only evidence. And they held the evidence—the baby in Anqi’s belly was the proof.’
’If they insisted it was Qin Xiang’s, then it was Qin Xiang’s. No matter where they took this, it would be his, and he wouldn’t be able to deny it.’
’When she had arranged the blind date between Qin Xiang and Anqi, she had asked him many questions—both appropriate and inappropriate. Anqi was three months pregnant, and during the time she would have conceived, Qin Xiang wasn’t on base. He was out on a mission.’
’She had ignored Jing Si’s attempts to stop her and pressed for details. Out of respect for her being Jing Si’s granny, Qin Xiang had smiled and given her a one-word answer: "Confidential."’
’Since it was confidential, very few people would know the details, and Qin Xiang couldn’t leak them. He would have to let them fabricate their story. He was bound to suffer in silence. If this scandal got out, Anqi’s reputation would be ruined, but Qin Xiang wouldn’t be able to get away unscathed either.’
’He’d be dragged through the mud to some extent. Qin Xiang was a soldier. If he wanted to advance his career, he wouldn’t let things blow up. He would have no choice but to compromise and marry Anqi.’
’After all, in Granny’s eyes, a career was far more important than a wife. He had to marry someone eventually, so what did it matter who it was? Her Anqi was good-looking, had a nice figure, and was a high school graduate. She was more than good enough for Qin Xiang.’
"That’s right, we’re not afraid!" Jie Anlin yelled.
Jie Jianjun fell into deep thought. ’They might not be afraid, but I am! If this really goes to a military tribunal, it’ll be a disaster. At best, Anqi’s reputation will be destroyed. At worst, I could even lose my job.’
"Granny, your helping Jie Anqi pin this on Qin Xiang is all based on the certainty that he won’t dare to leak confidential information. But what if he can produce an alibi without leaking anything? Can you bear those consequences?" Jie Jingchen demanded coldly.
Granny took a step forward. Jie Jingchen was sitting in a rattan chair, and she stood before him. She wasn’t tall, and with age, her back was slightly hunched. She was only a head taller than the seated Jie Jingchen. Leaning down to his ear, she whispered, "I can’t bear them. So I’ll let my eldest son bear them. I refuse to believe my own son would stand by and watch his mother go down in flames."
Jie Jingchen’s sharp brows furrowed slightly, his thin lips pressing into a line. He shot a cold, sideways glance at Granny. ’So that’s why she’s so fearless. She plans to have my father clean up her mess.’
An icy chill radiated from Jie Jingchen’s entire being. "Granny, I’m starting to wonder if my father is actually your biological son."
"Of course your father is my biological son." A triumphant look appeared on Granny’s face, thinking she had finally gotten the better of her rebellious grandson.
