Chapter 344: Minutes-Monster Boss [2], The "Hours" Hand Gate
Chapter 344: Minutes-Monster Boss [2], The "Hours" Hand Gate
SLASH!
It only took one powerful strike from his sword to cut the boss apart completely without it being able to do anything to stop him, its metallic body falling apart in pieces as it died.
And while this happened, something strange occurred in the chamber.
BOOM!
The world around Leon turned grey and dull once more, and the pieces of the boss that were supposed to fall to the ground stopped in place in midair as time froze completely.
In an instant, the [Time Overseer] appeared once more, materializing out of thin air right before Leon.
"I am quite shocked by what I just witnessed," the figure said with a hint of surprise in his voice, "I expected it to be far harder for you, but you managed to defeat it so... easily, most people who attempt this challenge fail and are ejected."
"..." Leon tried to say something, but he literally couldn’t move anything except his pupils, his entire body frozen in place.
"Perhaps it was too easy for someone of your caliber, I need to adjust things for the next one to make it more interesting."
The [Time Overseer] swayed his golden staff through the air and the colors returned to the world as time flowed once more.
Clack!
The pieces of the [Minutes-Monster] hit the ground with a metallic clatter, and Leon was finally able to complete this gate successfully.
Ding!
[You have killed the "Minutes-Monster" but haven’t received any experience points.]
[100% Drop Rate has triggered...]
’Good, seems like my talent still works on this thing even though its not a normal monster,’ Leon grinned to himself.
He quickly opened his [Storage Space] to make sure everything that dropped was there and accounted for.
[Minutes-Monster Essence: The essence of time flows through this thing, perhaps consuming it will allow you to resist it slightly.]
[Sub-Talent Scroll: Time Affinity (S-Level)]
[Minutes Hand: Place it on the "Analog Clock" of the "Time Tower".]
’Only the essence and the sub-talent scroll dropped from this one,’ Leon thought, ’But that’s more than enough to make this thing worthwhile.’
If Leon had to assume, even the [Time Overseer] wouldn’t expect someone to actually drop these two valuable items from the monster.
They would be so rare to him that even the very idea that a player could get them was considered impossible.
The essence was especially weird to Leon, as it didn’t grant any regular attributes but instead allowed the consumer to resist time manipulation effects.
’Is there a [God of Time] somewhere out there?’ Leon wondered, ’Well even if there isn’t, this essence might be useful against the [Time Overseer] himself if I ever need to fight him.’
He didn’t use it there since he knew that being was watching his every move, instead just pulling out the [Minutes Hand] to make it seem like he had been looking at it the whole time.
’Time is a supreme element, isn’t it...?’
This realization shook Leon slightly as he was able to obtain something like this, but he didn’t let it show.
Afterward, a glowing exit gate appeared in the middle of the room, and Leon went through it to come back to the main void where he had been before.
Now he only needed to take the second door and complete the challenge, and he’d have access to the top of the tower.
Leon didn’t waste any time and headed toward the [Hour] gate immediately.
But right as he was about to do it, another notification appeared before him.
Ding!
[Please place the "Minutes Hand" on the clock before leaving.]
"Oh, right," Leon said, having almost forgotten about that step entirely.
Leon turned toward the giant analog clock in the middle of the void and approached it with the [Minutes Hand] in his hands.
As soon as he came close enough to the clock, the item flew from his hand and grew to the size of the clock’s face before placing itself perfectly, pointing directly at midnight.
[Alright, you can go now.]
"..." Leon said nothing, simply nodding.
Leon turned back around, and pushed through the [Hour] gate this time, entering it and landing in another chamber that looked similar to the first one but with a different challenge awaiting him.
Ding!
[Grab all ten flags from the "Clock Speedsters" within the given time.]
"Where are they?" Leon asked, looking around the empty chamber.
BOOM!
In an instant, the chamber around Leon literally disappeared into nothingness, and the spot where Leon was standing turned into a small floating island in a massive grey void with no end in sight.
Ahead of him were hundreds of other islands like the one he was one, all floating in the void at varying distances, and on some of those islands... were strange monsters, exactly ten of them.
---
[Clock Speedster]
[Level: 100]
[Talent: Supreme Agility Enhancement (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: ???]
[Details: Pretty harmless monsters, but ones that are EXTREMELY fast, it is very hard to catch them.]
---
Each of these things looked like small mechanical creatures, all around 1 meter tall with a clock face for a head, and each of them carried a massive white flag on their backs that fluttered in the non-existent wind.
Ding!
[You have 12 hours to get them all, anything is allowed to do so.]
[If you fall into the void below, not only will you fail the challenge, but you will be transported to the "Time Chamber"]
[You do NOT wanna go to the "Time Chamber", player.]
"...Ok," Leon said, his expression turning serious.
Leon looked down at the grey vortex churning below the islands, having a deep sense of unease at the sheer thought of missing a single jump and falling into that abyss.
It seems like this "challenge" was much more sadistic than the first one had been, because it forced him to take risks.
Either take the massive risk to fall below by trying to catch these things for the flags, or do not risk anything but fail the challenge completely.
Of course, the second option wasn’t something Leon could even consider doing, so he simply looked ahead at the islands.
He saw six flags already from his current position ahead on different islands, meaning he only needed to find four more after those.
So all he needed to do... was get to them as fast possible, grab the flags, then look for the others before the 12 hour timer ran out.
"Alright," Leon cracked his fingers and neck, holding his sword and staff firmly in his hands, "Here we go."
